Robot Navigates based on overhead vision system and picks up baskets as directed by user. The user has the option of giving complex commands like "Go Pick up a yellow basket" or the user can servo the robot directly by telling it to go forward or backward. The geometric features of the baskets in the image are extracted after each action completion and the feature vector is stored as part of the user profile. The final state is assumed to be good and all other states are marked as bad. This is used as the initialization for a learning algorithm for all future interactions with that user. |

synopsis: For our idea, we wished to toy with the age-old quote If a tree falls in an empty forest, does it make a sound? Our project will answer this question in several ways. By creating a robot that can be controlled from a distant location, a participant can remotely drive the machine and cut down trees. Using the built in microphones, viewers will be able to hear their action, thereby answering the desired question. description of user experience: For the sake of simplicity and user-friendliness, our user experience will be designed to accessible to all ages through the means to control the robot. The way to access the robot will be from an pseudo-arcade game station, and would work with simple controls. Either a joystick, or simple direction keys depending on the preference of the user would control the movement of the robot. The only other action to be controlled would be the chainsaw and cutting action. This would be programmed for the least amount of error possible. A participant would press a button after positioning the robot around a tree, something that will be obvious, and the robot would go into a mode where it could not be moved to cut down the tree. Microphones would pickup whatever sounds would be present and send them back to the participant, thereby answering the question that this project is centered around. Additionally, for our presentation, we chose to work with a representation of the experience rather than try to replicate it. Chris and I both ... |

Google I/O 2010 - Making smart & scalable Wave robots Wave 201 David Byttow, Marcel Prasetya A smart robot must be able to store persistent data. Wave robots can store data in wave structures, like wavelets, datadocs, and annotations, instead of traditional datastores. A scalable robot must perform operations with minimal bandwidth. Wave robots can optimize by selecting the appropriate amount of context, the optimal events, and narrow filters for events. In this talk, we'll share best practices on data storage and scaling. For all I/O 2010 sessions, please go to code.google.com |

A natural language interface takes commands from the user and passed them to the robot for implementation. During the interaction learning is continually taking place based on the features of time image. Once the user specifies a final state, this is mapped as good and all previous states are marked as bad and this is updated to the user's profile. |

"In the mid-eighties, Van Gogh TV decided to filter their experiences of performance art, avant-guarde music and the traditional arts into the electronic mass media. Art thus became research. Became experimental; expeditionary; adventurous. Van Gogh Radio (present at documenta 8 in 1987, for example), was followed by Van Gogh TV. The future broadcast environment was determined to be: Interactive Television." Originally created as a mobile project, the early works of VGTV were pirate radio and pirate TV interventions and performance actions. Working under the names PONTON and Van Gogh TV, these partner projects maintained an active profile at commercial digital expos. and at international media art festivals. The first live TV broadcasts of VGTV were supported by the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, and broadcast on ORF2 and 3SAT. 1986: At Ars Electronica, the media simulation ContainerCity. 1987: Documenta 8, Kassel: International Radio Syndicate (pirate radio). 1987: Book Fair, Frankfurt: Mobile Radio. 1988: Osnabrück: first Van Gogh TV (pirate TV). 1989: In 1989, VGTV established its first permanent laboratory, the European Media Art Lab on Koppelstraße, in Hamburg's Kunstatelier Werkstatt. With a permanent base, VGTV began high level experimental research into the creative use of public communication systems. 1989: Ars Electronica: European Mobile Media Art Project. 1990: Ars Electronica: Hotel Pompino (live television project). 1992: documenta IX: Piazza Virtuale ... |
